About St. Louis, Missouri DWI Charges

DWI (driving while intoxicated) is a criminal offense which involves operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated or under the influence of a controlled substance. To be determined "intoxicated" a driver would have a blood alcohol concentration of .08% or greater, or have impaired mental or physical abilities due to alcohol or drugs.

If Missouri law enforcement witnesses behavior which may indicate a drunk driver, they will pull the driver over to the side of the road and first look for outward signs of intoxication, such as slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, etc. They then may ask the driver to step out of the vehicle and perform field sobriety tests to evaluate whether the driver's mental/physical abilities are impaired, and will most likely make an arrest if they believe there is probable cause that the driver is intoxicated.
